CHURCHVILLE — Goldie Lee (Testerman) Acord, 80, of 1075 Hankey Mountain Highway went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 12, 2012, while surrounded by her loving family in her home. Born July 31, 1931, in Wythe County, she was the daughter of John Henry Testerman Sr. and Zollie May Johnson Testerman.
Prior to retirement, she was employed as an LPN by King's Daughters' Hospital. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. Previously, she was a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, where she had served as secretary and kitchen director. She was instrumental in developing the Churchville quarterback club and cheerleading squad. Mrs. Acord also was active with Boy Scouts, Majorettes, the band at Churchville Elementary School and more recently, the Churchville Community Food Pantry. She also was a remarkably skilled seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Robert S. Acord; a daughter, Kathleen Wilson and husband, James, of Churchville; a son, Mitch Acord of Churchville; a brother, Glenn Testerman of Covington; two grandchildren, Candace Knott and Wesley Acord; and two great-grandchildren, Allie and Riley Acord.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, in Calvary Baptist Church, officiated by Pastors Randy Spencer and Bobby Campbell. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2012, in Bear Funeral Home.
