Chester Frederick Baker, 75, of Scottsville, died on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at his home. He was born on October 6, 1938, in Richmond, a son of the late Chester Roy and Frances Ellen (Winks) Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Baker. Mr. Baker was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He was an entrepreneur, having owned Baker Chevrolet in Scottsville, and was a partner with Leonard Land and Livestock, an auctioneering company. He also served as a Field Supervisor for the Virginia State Agriculture Department. Chester loved sports and was a great athlete, enjoying hunting, fishing and playing golf; as well as coaching little league baseball. In 1957, he won the National Sheep-Shearing Championship in Chicago. Survivors include his wife, of 58 years, Frances (Haislip) Baker; a son, Charles Clinton Baker and his wife, Debbie, of Roanoke; two daughters, Terry Baker Bryan and her husband, Ricky, of Columbia, and Karen Baker Clore and her husband, Richard, of Orange; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Underwood, Kelly Olson, Chad Baker, Zack Baker, Stacy Butler, Nikki Boisseau, Jenny Janson, Ryan Clore, Kevin Clore, and Katy Wilkerson; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, George Edward Baker and his wife, Winn, of Clarksville; two sisters, Frances Baker Settle of Scottsville, and Trudi Baker of Michigan; and a number of nieces, nephews and special cousins. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Suzie Baker Cline, and Karlen and John Lane for their loving care. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Antioch Baptist Church by the Reverend Richard Clore and the Reverend Ryan Clore. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
