Joseph Lee Ayers, of Pine Hall, NC, passed away at Beacon Place in Greensboro, Guilford County, NC. Mr. Ayers was born in Stokes County, NC, a son of the late James Thomas Ayers and Mary Emma Ashburn Ayers. He was a grandson of John Madison Ayers and Sarah Emily Simmons Ayers, great-grandson of William H. Ayers and Emily Ellen Shepherd Ayers, and great-great-grandson of James Shepherd and Elizabeth Dowdy Shepherd of Patrick County, VA.

Mr. Ayers was owner and operator of Riverview Golf Course in Pine Hall, NC, for over 40 years. He was a member of Dan River Lodge No. 129 for over 50 years and attended Bethesda United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Tuttle Ayers; brothers John Jesse, James Isaac, Paul Andrew, Arthur Lee, and Thomas Ashburn Ayers; and sisters Gracie Ayers, Rachel Ayers and Mary A. Reece.

Survivors include his wife, Treva K. Ayers; son Joseph Ayers, Jr., and wife Jennifer of Kernersville, NC; stepdaughter Joyce Eubanks and husband Jerry of Greensboro, NC; sisters Evelyn A. McNairy of Greensboro and Ruth A. Walsh of South Carolina; grandchildren Matthew and Morgan Ayers; and stepgrandchildren Kristin, Wesley and Kellye Eubanks.
