Mr. John Martin "J.M." Bowden, Jr., 82, of Plantation Lane, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at his home. He was born July 21, 1929, in Davie County to the late John Martin Bowden, Sr. and Bertie Hartman Bowden. Mr. Bowden was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed farming, deer hunting and working in his garden. Mr. Bowden was also a big NC State fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Lou Martin Bowden in 2004; a grandson, Christopher Martin Bowden in 1980; a sister, Ruth Poindexter; and a brother-in-law, Oscar Poindexter. Survivors include a son, Gary Martin Bowden (Dawn) of Advance; a granddaughter, Allison Bowden Joyce (Kyle) of Winston-Salem; a great-grandson, Jack Joyce; a brother, Robert Marshall Bowden (Phyllis) of Greensboro; a special friend and caregiver, Sylvia Potts; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at Eaton Funeral Chapel, Mocksville with Dr. Sonny Younce officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Cemetery in Mocksville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home. They request that memorials be considered for the American Diabetes Association , P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312; or Bermuda Commons, 316 NC Hwy 801 S, Advance, NC 27006. The family would like to express a special thank you to Kate B.
