Mr. Billy Clifton Adams, also known as "Rooty," of 415 Cody Circle, Winston-Salem, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 19, 2005, at his home. He was a native of Gastonia and a retired employee of Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools-Kimberly Park Elementary. Mr. Adams was a member of Zion Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, member of the Sunday school, Laymen League and various choirs. He was a former member of the Odessy Club and Travelers Club, Inc. Mr. Adams was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired sergeant of the U.S. Army Reserve. He is survived by his wife, Doris T. Adams, of the home; seven children, Eferem Adams of the city, Yevette Hope of Washington, D.C., Sharon Eggelton of Philadelphia, Pa., Darryl (Ella) Gregory, Turner Douthit and Paula Gregory, all of the city, and Tim (LaCreta) Douthit of Atlanta, Ga.; several grandchildren, among them, a devoted grandson, Kenneth D. White, of the city; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Adams, of Gastonia; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives; his mother-in-law, Edith T. Valentine; a special aunt, Betty C. Williams; two special friends, Betty Sligh and Lottie Cunningham, all of the city; and two special nurses, Brazha and Bramani. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Enrichment Center of Zion Memorial Baptist Church or Winston-Salem State University. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at Zion Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the church. The remains may be viewed from 2 to 6 p.m. today, Oct. 21, at Douthit's on Brownsboro Road. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
