Young Daisy Ruth Lewis of Raleigh Road, was drowned yesterday about 4:30 p.m. while swimming in Little River with three companions. According to Warren, Miss Lewis went under and her companions were unable to find her under the water.
Officers stated there is a strong suction in the water that makes swimming in the area dangerous.
Artificial respiration was administered by the Fort Bragg fire department and the Spring Lake volunteer fire department for approximately one hour without results.
Miss Lewis is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John I. Lewis of Raleigh Road; three sisters, Mrs. Thelma L. Jackson of Cumberland County, Evelyn O. and Dorothy R. Lewis, both of the home; and two brothers, Leston B. Lewis of the home, and John W. Lewis of the U.S. Army.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the home. Burial will be in the family cemetery at Gibson, NC.
