Born in Philadelphia, he was the beloved son of the late Nathan and Elsie Axler. He was a graduate of Delhaas High School, class of 1959. He went on to achieve a BS from Pennsylvania State University (1963); an MS (1966) and Ph.D. in Microbiology (1969) from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia. Loved by colleagues and students, David had an accomplished career. He had a great love for his college, was so very proud of his students and had tremendous respect for his colleagues. He was extremely touched and honored to be asked to hood the first graduating class this May. David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
