He was a native of Panola County and had lived in Jacksonville since 1929. He was a retired school teacher and a retired employee of J.L. Brown. Member of Masonic Lodge, American Legion and WW-1 veteran.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Mrs. Carrie Burke; son, James M. Burke of Houston; 3 daughters: Mrs. Ruth Shead of Tulsa, OK; Mrs. Martha L. Barnes of Ft.Worth and Mrs. Genevieve Luce of Jacksonville; sister, Mrs. T.F. (Eva) Locklin; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.
