Services for Jack Edward Hunt, 72, of Tyler, will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Roy Thoene officiating.

Mr. Hunt was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Garrett to Joe Eddie Lee and Geraldine Hunt. After spending his childhood in Ennis, he moved with his family to Tyler where he has resided since. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1954 and attended Tyler Junior College.

Jack was a retired surveyor with 40 years of combined service for the city of Tyler and Texas Power and Light. Away from work, Jack could always be found on the baseball diamond, playing for the Tyler Trojans and the Sardis Cats, along with numerous city and church softball leagues later in life. He was a long-time Civil War historian and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Jack was also a member of First Baptist Church of Gresham.

On Friday, June 5, 2009, Jack passed away of natural causes while at his home, surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jennie Lee Shelton, Ila Mae Medders and Jerri Ann Ashcraft.

Jack is survived by his loving family including his wife of 50 years, Yvonne; daughter, Tammy; grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, Izak, and Jenna; and brother, Jimmy, all of Tyler.

Pallbearers include, Ronnie Taylor, Charles Ashcraft, Warren Medders, Nathan Parker, Michael Medders, Wayne Scroggins, Richard Hardin and Jake Phillips.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Akers, Titus Jones, and Royce McKeethan.

Visitation is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Stewart Family Funeral Home 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, 75703. Jack will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Hawthorne Cemetery in Noonday.
