Gun Shot Wound Fatal To Worker
Lawrence Ables, 51, died almost instantly Monday at his home in John Day, as the result of what investigating officials pronounced a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the abdomen. He had been in poor health for some time and was just recovering from an injury received while employed in a lumber mill.
Dr. W. A. Alden was called immediately after the incident and pronounced the man dead. He summoned the coroner, Carl Driskill, who after investigation of circumstances, identified the case as self-inflicted.
Lawrence Ables was born at Logan, Utah, February 15, 1898. The family moved here two years ago. Survivors include the widow, Anna, and six children, Lannie, of Ely, Nevada, Goldie, Ardell, Mary Lou, Donna and Paul, all of John Day.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon from Driskill's with members of the Church of Latter-day Saints in charge. Burial was in the Canyon City cemetery.
