Martinez died April 27 at the Gallup Indian Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1920, in Coyote Canyon into the Red House People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.
Martinez was a 1940 graduate of Wingate High, where he played football. He worked in a shipyard in Los Angeles during World War II. He was a wood carver and sheepherder.
Survivors include his brothers, Miles Martinez of Santa Fe and David Martinez of Bread Springs; a sister, Alice M. Begay of Bread Springs; 85 grandchildren; and 66 great-grandchildren.
Martinez was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Nine Martinez; brothers, Tom Morgan, Wilburt Martinez, and Charley Martinez; and sisters, Effie Nelson, Ruth Pat, Susie Yazzie and Effie Lee.
Pallbearers will be Jasper Lee, Rodney Bitsilly, Nathan Young, Robert Begay, Wayne Begay and Bradley Tom.
The family will receive friends and family after the burial services at the family residence.
