William is the son of William Bennett and Dorcas Garrett and married Elizabeth Crowe, daughter of John Crowe, on 04 Aug 1859, in Forsyth County, Georgia.

He served in the Civil War, enlisting on 13 Aug 162 in Cummings, Forsyth County, Georgia, Co E, 43rd GA Infantry. He was captured on 04 Jul 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi and paroled on 06 Jul 1863. Afterwards, he joined the GA Troops, Co A, Graham's Battalion and fought until the end of the War.

His wife, Elizabeth, filed for Widow's Pension after his death. Most likely, he is buried beisde his wife at Bethel, but we have no confirmation at this time.
