J. S. shares a stone with Lenna M and "Little Dau Eva Maud". It looks like J. S. lost his wife Lenna in December 1887 (she was only 20 years old) and then lost his little 9 month old daughter less than a month later, in Jan. 1888.

According to Jacob's death certificate, found at the Missouri State Archives on-line death record search site, Jacob had a wife named Cora D. at the time of his death. He was a retired merchant. He died of Sciatic Rheumatism, with Paralysis, General, as a contributory factor. The symbol on his tombstone indicates that he was a Mason. His birth place is listed as Sullivan Co. Mo.

Jacob's father was William K. Combs, who enlisted as a Private in Co. B, 12 Cav. Missouri Volunteers on mar 29, 1864 and died May 9, 1864 in the Post Hospital, Benton Barricks MO of Rubeola, or Measles.

Jacob had a sister Cynthia Catharine Combs.
