Boone Ballard and Sarah Ann Brown were married around 1842 probably in Virginia, now West Virginia and shortly afterward moved to Shelby County, Indiana where the family of Boone Ballard lived. They remained there until 1851, where five of their children were born. In 1851 they came to Missouri where they owned 300 acres of lane in Cypress Township, Harrison County not far from Sarah Ann's brothers and sisters. Boone Ballard served as trustee of Cypress Township during the early days. They had three more children after arriving in Missouri. The last child was born in 1855. Sarah Ann died and is buried at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrison County, Missouri.

In July of 1856 Boone married his second wife, Caroline Salmon and they had eight children. Caroline Salmon was a daughter of Eli and Lydia Van Meter, born in Marion Co., Ohio on 12 Aug 1832 and died 27 Feb 1905 and is buried at Pleasant ?Ridge Cemetery in Harrison County, Missouri. During the Civil War, Boone served in the famous Merrill's Horse and was a farmer all of his life. Boone died on 18 Mar 1884 and is buried next to his first wife Sarah Ann Brown Ballard.
