Monday, 17 Dec 1951 St. Joseph Gazette:
Mrs. Emma Adkins died at her home, northeast of Dearborn, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 16, 1951, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 6 days.
She was married to Andrew Jackson Adkins Oct 27, 1881, and to this union 12 children were born, two dying in infancy and ten survive. They are George Adkins, Mrs. Thos. Todd and Elmer Adkins of Edgerton; Mrs. Jesse Todd and John of Faucett; Mrs. Herbert Bledsoe, Mrs. Forest Pulley and Grover and Simon of St. Joseph; one sister, Mrs. Ed Smith, living in Idaho. She also leaves 33 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was a member of the Davis Chapel church and lived an upright Christian life. The last two years of her life she suffered most of the time, her children taking turns in caring for her. Most of her married life was spent near Dearborn.
She was a good wife and mother and a good neighbor. Many times when her children were gathered around her, she asked them to live good lives and be faithful to God that the circle might not be broken when they meet in the home above with her and Dad. Truly her children can call her blessed.
