Mrs. Vanta Abbott, 91, one of Pemiscot County's oldest residents, died at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital last Friday, August 27. She was born in Hamilton County, Ind. on April 22, 1874, the daughter of Young and Sarah Jane Nickleson.
On October 9, 1901, in this city, she was married to James Monroe Abbott, who preceded her in death on June 22, 1932. She spent most of her adult life at Cottonwood Point and was a member of the Baptist Church there.
Funeral services were held at the Cottonwood Church Sunday afternoon with the Rev. William Powell and Rev. David Hart officiating. Burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith service.
Survivors include four sons, Cloise and John Abbott of Cottonwood, Charles and Melvin D. Abbott of Caruthersville; a daughter, Mrs. Vernie Abbott of Cottonwood; 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
