Teddy Ben Burgess, son of Caremon Earnest and Hettie Pauline West Burgess, was born August 5, 1947, in Sleeper, Missouri. He departed this life Thursday, June 2, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of sixty-eight years, nine months, and twenty-eight days.

On June 16, 1988, he was united in marriage to Judy Ann Murrell, and they shared twenty-three years before her passing on January 19, 2012.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two step-children, Donna Crooker, and Randy Crall.

Teddy is survived by three sons, Bradley Burgess, of Lebanon, Missouri, Scott Burgess, and his wife, Susie, of Chicago, Illinois, and Eddie Luttrell, and his wife, Brenda, of Lebanon, Missouri; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Burgess, & his wife, Terri, of Eldridge, Missouri, and Jack Burgess, of Sleeper, Missouri; a sister, Janice Burgess, and her husband, Gerry, of Richland, Missouri; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

He was born and raised in the Sleeper area, and attended school in Sleeper and Stoutland. He worked for Alvin Jackson Used Cars for a time, and then began a career as a linesman, starting with Frazier Brothers in Springfield, and then working for Consolidated Electric in Lebanon for a number of years. After he and Judy were married, they made their home in Lebanon and lovingly raised their family.

Teddy had professed his faith in Christ and was a member of Sleeper Pentecostal Church.

In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors where his favorite activities were fishing and hunting. He also liked going to auctions and purchasing guns. He greatly enjoyed having coffee each morning with his coffee club buddies. He loved animals and was especially close to his dog, “Cricket”. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed having time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Teddy was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate his life and know that his family and friends will treasure the wonderful memories he made for them during his lifetime.
