Anita Louise "Nita" Alston, 63, of 452 Main Street, East Hartford, entered into eternal rest on Monday (August 24, 2009).

She was born on June 1, 1946 in Hawkinsville, GA, daughter of Malcolm and Ida (Miller) Williams, Sr.

Anita graduated in 1964 from J.L. Bozeman High School and was Valedictorian of her class. She attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA graduated in 1970 and was Summa Cum Laude of her class.

In 1971, Anita moved to Hartford to begin a career. She was employed by Society for Savings Bank in Hartford as head teller, a substitute teacher for Clark Elementary School (grades 3 and 4) and then she became a social worker through the State of CT and worked for Community Renewal Team (CRT) until her health declined.

Anita also served as a notary public for the State of CT. She received many awards, honors, and certificates during her lifetime. She was always active, loved her friends, and enjoyed doing things for her family. She was a faithful member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Hartford.

Those left to cherish her memory are four sisters, Bessie Hardrick, Darlene Williams, both of Bloomfield, Ophelia Pitts of East Hartford, very devoted sister, Vivian Williams of Glastonbury; three brothers, Malcolm Williams, Sr. of Seattle, WA, Elton Williams of East Hartford, and Cedric Williams of Los Angeles, CA; two aunts, Mary Scott and Drucilla Hargrett; a uncle, James Williams; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews, a great-great-niece and a host of other relatives and friends. Besides her parents, two sisters, Barbara Kendrick and Connetta Williams predeceased Anita.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11 a.m.; calling hour will be held at 10 a.m.; at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, 2051 Main Street, Hartford.
Interment will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford.
