Update from Norm Brown, 2/7/2008.
Brown, Marker with no other information 11(in Plot with John C. Brown CGT)
Brown, John C.(**John Coleman Brown, Sr.), b. 16 Dec 1847, d. 27 Oct 1922 "Let me die the death of the righteous and let my last end be like His"
**H/o (1) Elizabeth Jane Harrell, (2) Rebecca Foreman (3) Harriett Caroline Tillman. S/o John & Elizabeth Day Brown.
Monument in the end of Family Plot reads (In Memory of Etta and Dora Munn)
Actually, what happened was this: In the beginning there were old dirt mounds with on headstones. I believe that John Brown and wife Elizabeth Day Brown were buried here first in 2 of those 11 plots. Son Jesse D. (my GG GF) may have been returned from the Civil war and buried here in 1863 but we are not sure. Another was likely Missouri Frances Brown, daughter of Jesse D. Brown and Amanda Miller Brown. Amanda may also be buried here even though she remarried John Jacobs before 1870 and died about 1878.
There were likely infant children of these Browns buried as some of those 11 and I expect some were not used but
reserved for later use. Someone decided to refurbish those sites and the mounds were smoothed over.
Finally, I believe there were only 5 of those plots used as mentioned. I believe John Brown obtained the plots from the beginning as he helped establish this church and cemetery.
Also, you have Rebecca Forman and Daniel Foreman buried there. Rebecca was Rebecca Jane Brown, d/o John Brown &
Elizabeth Day Brown. Her husband was much older than she and after he died in another County (Coffee I think) she returned to the area and lived with a daughter until her death. Her son Daniel lived in Dale also.
You list Melba Jernigan buried here. She was Melba Brown, d/o Jesse Fletcher Brown.
