WINFIELD, Ala. Flora Lee Mays Franklin died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare Center in Winfield, Ala. She was born Oct. 22, 1910, in Monroe County.

She was a resident of the Pine Springs community and a member of Pine Springs United Methodist Church. She and her husband, Lonnie, operated Pine Springs Grocery for many years. She was the Lamar County home economist, and visited and assisted elderly families. She also was the Pine Springs correspondent for the Lamar Leader newspaper.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pine Springs United Methodist Church with Bro. L.B. “Jake” Mays and the Rev. Steve Pilkington officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Springs Cemetery. Otts Funeral Home of Sulligent, Ala., is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, J.C. and Frankie Franklin of Dalton, Ga., Larry and Rebecca Franklin of Sulligent, Ala., and Jerry and Brenda Franklin of Oxford; her grandchildren, Myra F. Montanaro of Calhoun, Ga., Marsha F. Whitener and Miriam F. Wink of Dalton, Ga., Mark Franklin of Acworth, Ga., Mitch Franklin of LaBelle, Fla., Alan Franklin of Vernon, Ala., Jennifer F. Moore of Arab, Ala., Jessica Franklin of Tampa, Fla., and Scott and Stacy Franklin of Oxford; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two special friends, “Dude” and “Cooter” Baughn; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Franklin; her parents, J.M. “Cager” and Ola Weeks Mays; five brothers, Perry Mays, Orbie Mays, Aaron Mays, Renon Mays and Verdo Mays; and a sister, Rubye Mays Franklin.
