Marvin Waldemar Johnson, 93, died on November 28, 2016 in Rochester Minnesota.

Marvin was born at home in Maple Ridge Township Isanti County to Oscar and Erna (Anderson) Johnson on June 17, 1923. He was raised on a dairy farm near Dalbo, Minnesota and attended a two-room country school. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1941. After High School he attended Augsburg College for two years.

In 1944 he enlisted in the Navy where he learned to fly the PBY. His love of flying continued for the rest of his life. When WWII was over he attended the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Medical School.

In July 1949 he married Mary Ann Hanson who he grew up with in Dalbo.

After completing his medical degree, he took a position in Milaca Minnesota, as a General Practitioner. In 1955 they moved to Dassel, Minnesota where they raised their family and he was in general practice with Dr. Joe Houts. They moved to Rochester, Minnesota in 1971 when Marvin became a Fellow in Radiology at the Mayo Clinic. Marvin practiced radiology from 1975 to 1990 in Worthington, Minnesota with Dr. Gene Birkemeyer and Dr. Jim Myerly.

In 1996 Marvin and Mary Ann moved back to Rochester where they made their retirement home.

Marvin loved flying his float plane, fly fishing and hiking in the mountains of Montana, singing in their church choir, traveling with Mary Ann, working in his wood working shop and watching his grandchildren grow up.

Marvin is survived by Mary Ann, his wife of 67 years; their three children: Barbara (Daniel) Worthington of Denver, Colorado and their children Jason and Elizabeth (Michael) Lippert; Bruce (Janet) Johnson of Apple Valley, Minnesota and their children Katherine and Evan; and Craig (Carol) Johnson of Saint Paul, Minnesota and their children Sten and Lars. He is also survived by his sister, Edryce Johnson, of Bloomington, Minnesota and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Erna Johnson; brothers Loren and Vernel and sister, Myrette Hornicke.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11 am at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester Minnesota. Visitation at the church at 10 am.

Marvin had a generous heart so in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charitable organization of your choice.
