Civil War: Company G, 7th California Infantry
Washington Norton enlisted as a private at Placerville, California, October 17, 1864, and was mustered into Company G, 7th California Infantry, October 30. He was posted to Arizona Territory, where, according to the Fort Mason Monthly Returns for December 1865, he died of disease while en route to Fort Yuma, California, where his remains were taken for burial.
NOTE: His surname, without his first name, appears in a non-sequential list of burials at Fort Yuma, compiled in the 1870's, but his name does not appear among the 159 other remains that were reinterred to San Francisco National Cemetery after Fort Yuma closed.
