The Rev. Charles L. Kaldahl died of cancer at his Port Townsend home. He was 77.

He was born to the Rev. Soren S. and Marie Christiana (Petersen) Kaldahl in Wolbach, Nebr.
He attended elementary school in Green Bay, Wis., and graduated from Harlan High School in Harlan, Iowa.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in education at Tallequah Oklahoma University and was a elementary school teacher.

He worked as a high design florist while attending Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, Calif., where he received a Master of Divinity and was ordained May 7, 1972.

He married Jean Clark in Elkader, Iowa, on June 12, 1954.

The Rev. Kaldahl was an assistant pastor of St. Mark Lutheran Church and of First United Lutheran Church as well as a substitute night minister in San Francisco. He was director of St. Timothy's Healing Community Inc. in San Francisco and conducted cancer support groups at Sisters of Mercy Convent in Burlingame, Calif.

He retired to Port Townsend in 2001. He was a member of Association of Christian Therapists and Order of St. Luke. He received an Inter-Lutheran Specialized Pastoral Care Endorsement. He enjoyed flowers, painting, reading and gourmet cooking.

Survivors include his wife of Port Townsend; son and daughter-in-law David Joel and Deborah Kaldahl of Port Townsend; brother and sister-in-law Philip and Ann Kaldahl of Omaha, Neb.; sister and brother-in-law Janice and John Haskell of Denton, Texas; sister-in-law Joyce Kaldahl of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Silas Kaldahl and Paul Kaldahl.

Services: Thursday, July 19, 3 p.m., funeral, with the Revs. Elizabeth Bloch and Joan Randall officiating, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1020 Jefferson St., Port Townsend. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

Burial will be at the Clark family cemetery in Clayton County, Iowa. Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Jefferson Healthcare Hospice, 834 Sheridan St., Port Townsend, WA 98368.
