An Outrage. - Some three months ago the worthless wife of the last Alfred Bates found another affinity, and then there was trouble in the family, and the affinity boarded in the county jail sixty days for an assault and battery on Bates, the latter was indicted for drawing a deadly weapon on the former. Having thus lost her Silver King affinity, she removed to Markleeville and speedily found another. Shortly after the removal, Bates died from the effects of being crushed by a mule, and she married the man - "Andy" Grow - she was living with. Within a few days after this marriage her infant daughter died, as alleged, from cruelty and neglect. A committee then waited upon Grow and read to him and his wife a notice for him to settle up his business and leave the county within five days. The notice recited the guilt of the woman, but did not order her to leave. It transpiring that they were in the habit of beating the surviving daughter Helen, aged three years, she was taken from them, sick unto death, and placed in care of Mrs. Wm.
