Anton Elias Askildsen was born at Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway on September 24, 1875. He was one of two sons of Askild Askildsen (19 Nov 1837 at Nordhus, Rennesoy, Rogaland, Norway and died 19 Jun 1926) and his first wife, Elen Sirena Larsdatter (14 Jan 1836 at Netland, Sokndal, Rogaland, Norway and died 12 Sep 1887 at Kristiansund, Vest Agder, Norway). Anton had five full sisters, two of whom died young and full one brother, who died at six months. His full siblings were: Anne Regine 10 May 1866-5 Jan 1916 (Lauritz Andreas Larsen 30 Aug 1858 - 3 Nov 1926), Lava Marie 28 May 1868 - 28 Aug 1940 (Hans Elias Ellingson 31 Jul 1867 -25 Aug 1949), Esther Johanna 11 May 1870 - 23 Jan 1872, Esther Johanna 21 Dec 1872 - 10 May 1904 (Carl Martin Davidsen 10 Oct 1867-30 Dec 1917), Albert 20 May 1878-3 Dec 1878) and Albertdine 22 Oct 1880 - 27 Jun 1894. Anton's father married a second time on 4 Oct 1888 to Lovise Larsdatter at Stavanger, Norway. From this marriage came three half-siblings to Anton. They were: Gustav Emil Askildsen 9 Jan 1889-1933, Lars Helbert Askildsen 5 Mar 1891-Feb 1966 and Alma Louise Askildsdatter 12 Jan 1896-23 Jan 1983. Anton's father married a third time 19 Apr 1902 to Ane Kathrine Christensdatter at Stavanger. There were no children born to the third marriage.
Anton came to the US in 1891 with his two full sisters. They settled first in Chicago, IL. The 1910 census shows Anton in Summerdale, Baldwin County, Alabama, living with his sister Lava and her husband, Hans Ellingson and their three children, Eva, Henry and Lawrence Ellingson. Anton is listed as a farm laborer there. He also had worked and lived for a time in Wisconsin where his oldest sister and her husband lived. The 1920 census shows that Anton is living in Lee Township, Norman County, MN and is working as a miller. He rented and operated the Wild Rice Roller Mill and boarded with the Dosland family. Anton went on to homestead in Chouteau County, Montana. He is shown on the 1930 census in Chouteau County, MT living by himself and he was a farmer. He returned to the Perley area and lived and worked on the Tommy Dosland farm most of his adult life. Anton was a first cousin to Anne Louise Dosland as their mothers were sisters. Anton never married. He sometimes went to Alabama during sweet corn harvest to visit relatives.
Anton went in to the Eventide Rest Home in April 1962. He had been in failing health since February. He passed away 7 Oct 1962 at Eventide, Moorhead, Clay, MN. Funeral services for him were held at the Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley on October 10, 1962. Pastor Raymond Larson officiated. Pallbearers were: Chester, Thormon, Gjert, Leroy and Daniel Dosland and Peder Gaare. Burial was in the Bethania Cemetery.
