Avro Anson V (#12478) aircraft, with six airmen on board, crashed 7 ½ miles north of Ponoka, Alberta. The Anson, based at RCAF Station Currie Field, Alberta, had flown into heavy turbulance which caused it to break apart in mid-air.
The six airmen who perished in this accident were:-
RCAF Flight Lieutenant Louis Lynde AIDE,
RCAF Flight Lieutenant Thomas Bernard AKIN,
RCAF Flight Lieutenant Everett Brock ALLAN,
RCAF Flight Lieutenant Robert George HODGE,
RCAF Flying Officer George Joseph Sydney OVEREND and
RNZAF Sergeant Ivan Rex STACEY.
