Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Taylor Anderson, long-time resident of the Mount Olive community, were held Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Church of God in Christ of Lexington. Bishop T.T. Scott officiated, assisted by Elder Robert L. Shepherd.
Mrs. Anderson died Monday, June 23 at Methodist Hospital of Middle Mississippi in Lexington. She was 89.
A native of Holmes County, she was born in Lexington on December 23, 1896.
She and her husband, the late Elder Jonas Anderson, were instrumental in establishing the Sunday School Department of the Church of God in Christ, Northern Jurisdiction; she was a licensed missionary of the Church of God in Christ; and served as State Field Worker of the Sunday School Department for 49 years.
Survivors include one son, James E. (Elizabeth) Anderson, a daughter, Mrs. Mamye V. Leonard, both of Chicago, Illinois; four step children, McKiosky Anderson and
Philander C. Anderson, both of Chicago; Webster J. Anderson and Mrs. Ella Mickey, both of Lexington: three sisters, Mrs. Amy Williams of Greenwood, Mrs. Allen V. Taylor of Chicago, and Mrs. Dorothy B. Horton of Lexington; two brothers, Mutt T. Taylor and Sam Taylor of Lexington; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grand children.
Interment was in Greenlawn Cemetery with Century Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Her grandsons served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Supt. G.L. Copprue and District State Sunday School Superintendents, Northern Jurisdiction.
Flower bearers were members of the Hospitality Club and Missionaries of St. Paul Church of God in Christ. Honorary pallbearers were District Field Workers of the
State Sunday School Department.
