John Beggs dies at Ashland

One of Cass County's Oldest Resident's Funeral to Be Held Tomorrow.


Ashland, July 11. - John Beggs, one of Cass county's oldest and respected residents, died at his home in the Centenary neighborhood, north of Ashland, Saturday, July 10, at 12:45 p.m. He was born at "Old Princeton," near Little Indian, Morgan county, Illinois, on Aug. 7, 1831, the youngest child of Capt. Charles and Mary Ruddell Beggs. In this home he grew to manhood.

On Dec. 18, 1855, he was united in marriage with Sallie Sinclair. They resided with his parents for one year, then moved to the farm home, where he spent the remainder of his life.

His home was open to all that was good. During all of his married life he as a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church. In this home he welcomed and entertained many times those eminent men of Methodism including Rev. Peter Cartwright and Rev. Peters Akers. Mr. Beggs' life was a great influence for good in his neighborhood. Surely the righteous are blessed in their death.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 3 o'clock at Centenary church.
