Funeral service for Lucille Ambrose, 89, Elgin, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Elgin with Minister Jim Hall and Adraine Smith officiating.
Mrs. Ambrose died Saturday, May 24, 2008, in Lawton.
Burial will be at Elgin Cemetery under the direction of Elgin Funeral Home.
She was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Fletcher, to James Holden and Ida Mae (McCloskey) Miller. When she was 3 she moved with her family south of Elgin and attended Mistletoe Elementary School. She later graduated as valedictorian of her eighth grade class at Mineral Wells School. She then attended her junior year at Lawton High School and her senior year at Elgin High School, graduating in 1936. She then attended Cameron College.
She married Carl Wolcott on Oct. 15, 1939, in Duncan. She owned and operated Lucille's Cafe for 14 years and later owned and operated the Fabric Store in Elgin. She was well known for her cinnamon and hot rolls as well as her homemade pies. She also worked at Woodward's Department Store in Fletcher and later the Elgin Nutritional Center. She also helped volunteer and serve many good meals at Larry Glover Cattle Company. She married Scott A. Ambrose on Feb. 26, 1966, in Lawton. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elgin. She was also a member of the V.F.W Ladies Auxiliary Post 8580, where she served as secretary for many years, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 306. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Survivors include her husband of the home; a son, Larry Wolcott, of Elgin; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Larry Glover, of Elgin; three grandchildren: Stacy Dawn Tucker and her husband, Robert, Larry Scott Wolcott and his wife, Lea Ann, and Kay Lynn Glover, all of Elgin, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren: Garrett Wayne Tucker, Aubrie Grace Tucker, Landon Blake Rodenburger, Amberlea White, and Bralea White, all of Elgin; one brother and sister-in-law, James Harvey and Donna Miller of Elgin; two sisters, Lillian Francis Keeney, of Elgin and Dorothy May Butler, of Fletcher; one sister-in-law, Sallye Dolan, of Pasadena, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twins, Dale Edward and Carlene Marie Wolcott; a son, Don Earl Wolcott; two brothers, Ira Courtland Miller and Donald Levoice Miller, and a sister, Doris Fay Bates.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church UMW.
Friends may call or visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
