"Highway Accident Claims Life of Martin Youth"

Grim and heartbreaking tragedy struck the family of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Brewer Sunday evening when their eleven year old son, Michael Eugene, was fatally injured in a two car crash that occurred near their trailer home located one mile south of Martin on Highway 45.
Young Mike was engaged at the time in helping to push a stalled car belonging to Mr. Thomas Nelson Copley of Bradford, at approximately 5:25 P. M., when a car driven by Mr. J. D. McMillan of Martin crashed into the rear, pinning the youngster between the two cars.
Both cars involved in the accident were on the right lane, headed northward toward Martin, with the McMillan car also occupied by his wife and two children, who were returning home in Martin after a visit to the Sidonia Community.
Young Mike was taken to the Weakley County Hospital in a Doug Murphy ambulance, and died shortly after arrival at 6:10 P. M., according to the details credited to the State Highway Patrol Report.
The report stated that there were three children and one adult pushing and that the others were able to get out of the way in time, suffering no injuries. Mr. and Mrs. McMillan, however, suffered facial lacerations, with no injuries recorded to their children. The accident occurred at the time of the evening which is classed as one of the most dangerous times, between sundown and total darkness.
