Hammie Adams Dies In Decatur Tuesday
James Hamilton "Hammie" Adams, 78, a life-long resident of the Arthur area, died at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Hospital at Decatur.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. today in the Arthur Methodist Church by the Rev. Kenneth Plummer.
Mrs. Martha Albers will be organist and Mrs. H. L. Phillips will sing " The Old rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
Friends may call at the Fleming Funeral Home until noon today.
Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery.
Pallbearer will be Klyde Combs, Fred White, Al Schlabach, Delbert Albers, June Wood, and Joe Hood, all members of the Arthur Fire Department.
Mr. Adams became ill Saturday evening and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital Sunday after he was stricken again.
He was born April 28, 1879 in Jonathan Creek Township, Moultrie County, Illinois, the son of Edward and Margaret Lane Adams.
On December 31, 1900 he was married to the former Elizabeth Stoller, who survives.
Mr. Adams was employed by Progress Manufacturing Company in the early years of that firm, later worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, retiring in 1927, and from 1932 until 1943 he was employed by the Arthur Village Board in the water department. He had been semi-retired since then.
He was a member of the Arthur Methodist Church, a charter member of the Arthur Fire Department and a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
Besides his widow he is survived by his father, Edward Adams, 98, of Pierson Station; three daughters, Mrs. Floyd Vaughn of Arthur, and Mrs. Dave Garrett and Mrs. Clarence Stout, both of Tuscola; two sons, Ferd of Lansing, Mich, and James E. of Dyer, Ind.; one sister, Ms. A. F. Dawkins of Mahomet; one half-sister, Mrs. Lela Brownfield of Champaign; two half-brothers, Fred Fulfer of Salem and Roy Fulfer of Urbana, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
A brother, Albert Adams, and a half-brother, Jesse Fulfer, proceeded him in death.
