Stanley Ray Black, age 89 years, 5 months, and 15 days, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Abbott and Bro. George Coffey officiating. Burial was in the Sherd Dobbs Cemetery.

He was born November 14, 1922 in Yamacraw, Kentucky to Hewie Black an Zadie Jones Black. He was a retired coal miner and World War II veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Stanley loved to ride around and look at scenery and spend time with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Lula Gregory Black, whom he married March 26, 1949, his daughter, Brenda Dobbs, his stepson, James Gregory, his brothers, Paul Edward Black and Robert Leo Black, his sisters, Myrtle Meadows and Bertha Graves and great grandson, Gabriel Alexander Black.

Survivors include his sons, David and Larry Black, both of Stearns, Kentucky, stepchildren, Johnny Gregory, Ethel Wright and Helen Anderson all of Muncie, Indiana, sisters, Hazel Black of Whitley City, Kentucky, Ruth Sleeth, Betty Sinnott, and Kitty Griessel all of Louisville, Kentucky, a son-in-law, Darrel Dobbs of Stearns, Kentucky, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
