Eric J. Frideen was born in Sweden in March of 1851. The family came to America in 1886. Eric was a naturalized citizen. He applied for a homestead on January 20, 1887 paying a filing fee of $18 for application #17085. . . NW 1/4 of Section 18, Township 10, Range 18 (Buffalo County). There was already a sod house on the claim. He built a 6 room frame house, a barn, well and windmill. The previous claimant had already broken 50 acres. He "broke" 30 more acres and raised wheat and corn. He "proved up" his homestead by December 13, 1893 with a final certificate #10004. Andrew Brodine and John Johnson were witnesses at this filing. Gustava and Eric were the parents of two children, Eric Herman and Mandy J. The entire family was born in Sweden.
