Leonel "Lonny" De La Garza, 61, Halstad, MN, formerly of Nielsville, MN moved on to the next phase of his eternal life by esophagus cancer on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.
Lonny was born on June 15, 1954 to Manuel and Flora De La Garza in Crookston, MN. Lonny was the youngest of 6 siblings. He grew up in Nielsville, MN, where he graduated in 1974 from Climax High School. Lonny then went on to attend Moorhead Technical College for 2 years for Commercial Art.
Lonny's greatest passion was his love for drawing. Most people will remember him for his drawing talent and oil paintings. Lonny made a living and stayed busy by creating Commercial signs and personal paintings. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching the Vikings, singing karaoke, and his cats, all which brought him a lot of joy. Lonny knew how to make the ordinary things fun and was a great blessing in our life. He filled our lives with song and laughter.
Those who hold his memory dear are his siblings Oralia Garza Austin, IN; Ciro (Betty) De La Garza Halstad, MN; and Manuel De La Garza, Climax, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Trinidad De La Cruz and a brother, Joe.
