Johann A. Anderson died at home peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Johann A. Joe Anderson was born February 2, 1919 at Gardar, ND the son of the late Johann H. S. And Sigguros (Freeman) Anderson. He grew up and attended school in Gardar, ND. He married Adele Lindell on December 20, 1941 in Burlingame, CA and they had four children together. Joe enlisted in the United States Army in April of 1942. He landed on Utah Beach, D-Day Plus 2 and served with the 398th Engineers in General Patton's 3rd Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged in October of 1945 at the rank of Sergeant.

He started and built a family farm machinery business in Edinburg, ND in 1958 serving farmers in the surrounding communities. Anderson's of Cavalier is still serving farmers and is run by two of his sons, Roy and Dan. Some of his community service involved being Justice of the Peace, Fire Chief for several years, and he was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Elks, a member of the Edinburg American Legion Post #156 and the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg.

He is survived by his loving wife Adele; his children: Roy (Barb) Anderson of Edinburg, ND; David (Kathy) Anderson of Nashville, TN; Jolayne (Richard Mac) McKnight of Cavalier, ND; Dan (Nancy) Anderson of Cavalier, ND: his grandchildren: Suzanne (Chuck) Kartes of Edinburg, ND, Kristin (Keith) Werk of Minneapolis, MN and Amy McKnight of St. Paul, MN; great grandchildren: Brandon and Kameron, his sister RoseAdele (Cecil) Sigurdson of Edinburg, ND; his brothers: Freeman (Shirley) Anderson of Sun City West, AZ and Henry (Dottie) Anderson of Minneapolis, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, three brothers and a grandson.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at 10:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home in Edinburg, with a prayer service Monday evening at 7:00 PM. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at the Gardar Cemetery at Gardar, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Edinburg American Legion Post #156.
