Edward Erle/earl/Earle (1590) and his son Edward (1628) were passages aboard the ship "Thomas" from Gravesend England to Virginia USA in August 1635. The Captain of the ship was Henry Tavener. They arrived in Maryland in 1662. He met and married Hannah Baylis around 1665, also and English immigrant. They had only one son, Edward Earle Jr., who was born in Calvert County Maryland. Edward purchased the island of Secaucus in New Jersey in April 1676 for 2,000 "Dutch dollars" , together with an existing house and some stock. The original house is thought to have been on a small hill in the town of Secaucus (not the hospital by the river in town). Edward died in 1711 and was buried on December 15, 1711. His original gravesite (Earle Graveyard) no long exits. (the Inspection station now sits there) Where the Abel I Smith (which does not exits anymore) the UPS Company Warehouse now on that land) There are photos of the Abel I Smith on the internet!
