Andrew Jackson Brineger (also spelled Brinegar) was born in about 1824 in Indiana, acquired some land in 1848 near Mineral Point, Iowa County, Wisconsin, and soon after came to the gold mining camps in California to seek his fortune. It was in one of these camps along Nelson Creek near Nelson Point, Plumas County, California that he died in 1851, whereupon his fellow miners saw to it that he was properly buried high above the creek and placed a tombstone over his grave.
