Edith was mother to Wilson B Brainard's 5 children starting when Wilson was 58 yrs old. Edith was Wilson's third wife. He had no children with the first two. The obit tells about the children and of Wilson as a "well known Civil War veteran who died in 1923".

Mrs. Edith May Brainard, 85 (sic), widow of Wilson Brainard, well known Civil war veteran who died in 1923, died Tuesday morning at her home in Covert following a stroke of paralysis.

She is survived by two sons, Wilson Brainard of Kalamazoo and Duane Brainard of Coloma, and two daughters, Mrs. Martha Burrows of Benton Harbor and Mrs. Mable Davis of Paw Paw, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral rites for her will be held from the Calvin funeral home at Covert Friday at 2 o'clock, with burial in Covert cemetery.
