He was born November 4, 1949, the son of Jack E. and Effie (Brubaker) Altman.
Les attended Apollo Ridge High School and honorably served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a welder for a number of years and also worked for Barrett Lumber. Les was a former member of Pleasant Union Lutheran Church and his passion was hunting. He was a vintage car enthusiast and also enjoyed quilting with his wife, Janet, and woodworking. To relax, Les liked watching all kinds of movies and television shows about cars. He will be best remembered for being a loving husband, caring father and wonderful grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Tammy Carpenter and husband, Glen, of Cherry Tree, PA, Marcie Piper and companion, Dean Perry, of Berkeley Springs, WV, and Becky Davis and husband, Gus; grandchildren, Brittany, Shawn, Christopher, Branden, Robert and Lucas; brother, Jeff Altman and companion, Denise, of Ford City; and sisters, Sheila Altman, of Rural Valley, and Barb Rowe and companion, Kim, of Avonmore.
Les was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 43 years, Janet Mae Altman, who died August 24, 2012; grandson, Justin; and brother, Ervin Altman.
Family and friends will be received from 7-9 PM on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home, 125 East Main Street, Dayton, PA.
Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Pleasant Union Lutheran Church, 541 Little Rock Rd., Kittanning, PA, with Pastor Jim Barrett officiating.
Burial will be in Pleasant Union Lutheran Cemetery, Kittanning, Pennsylvania.
