A native of Hatteras, she was a daughter of Homer Wood and Mrs. Eliza Burrus Styron and the widow of Charlie H. Ballance. She was a member of Hatteras United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Charles H. Ballance, Jr. of Hatteras; two daughters: Mrs. Maxine Basnight of Manteo and Mrs. Hilda Brown of Marshalburg; a brother, Chauncey B. Styron of Morehead City; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Austin; a half-brother, Edgar L. Styron; a half-sister, Mrs. Octavia Stowe, all of Hatteras; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to Twiford Island Chapel.
