Leonard L. Applegate, 73, of Casey died at 9 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 1997 at his residence. Graveside services with military rites were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 19 at Hazel Dell Cemetery. Visitation was held one 1 hour prior to the service at Barkley J.Funeral Home in Greenup.

He was born October 14, 1924 at Urbana, the son of Wayne and Edna (Shore) Applegate. He married Betty Glidewell in 1947 and she survives. Other survivors include a son, Lance Applegate of Casey; a daughter, Linda Vincent of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Margaret Pierce of Lake Piacid, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Mr. Applegate was retired from the University of Illinois Chemistry Department. He was a member of the Hazel Dell American Legion and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
