Funeral Services for Hollis “Holly” Boyer, 88, of Memphis, will be held at the Payne Funeral Chapel Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 20, at 1:30 P.M. with Jim Campbell and Richard Weber officiating. Interment will follow in the Granger Cemetery.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 12 to 8 p.m at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 that evening.

Hollis Boyer Passed away Friday night, Jan. 15, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.

Survivors include his children, Vicky Ward of Kirksville, Charlie (Beth) Boyer of Granger and Tina (Gary) Parrish of Memphis; two grandchildren, Katena (Tim) Frey of New Bedford, MA and Andy Boyer of Memphis; two step-grandchildren, Callie and Hayden Holt; ant two great-grandchildren, Keana and Thaxton Frey along with other relatives and many friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Hospital and Care Center Auxiliary and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Hollis Jean “Hollie” Boyer was born July 30, 1927 to Charles W. and Ora Belle (Herring) Boyer. He was the youngest of five children: three brothers, Cecil, Wallace, and Archie, and a sister Mary Belle.

He graduated from Gorin High School in 1945. Upon graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines.

In 1948 he married Mary Anabel Jones of Granger, MO. To this union three children were born, Vicky Ward of Kirksville, Charlie Boyer and wife Beth of Granger, and Tena Parrish and husband Gary of Memphis.

Also surviving Hollis are granddaughter, KaTena Frey and husband Tim; along with great-grandchildren Keana and Thaxton of New Bedford, MA, grandson, Andy Boyer of Memphis, and two step-grandchildren, Cali Holt of La Plata and Jade Holt of Granger.

Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sister, wife, two grandsons Michael and Gregory Varnold, and two granddaughters Candy and Mandy Boyer.

He served as the state President for the Missouri Land Improvement Contractor’s Association and was instrumental in the formation of the Scotland County Memorial Hospital and the Scotland County Care Center, serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors for a number of years.

Interment in the Granger Cemetery in rural Scotland County.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Boyer, Kenny Clatt, Phil Lakin, Harold Trump, Gary Parrish and Andy Boyer.
