On an extraordinary winter day, February 13, 1938 in Talla Bena, LA, God blessed Dave Boykins and Luvenia Reed Boykins with a girl whom they named Lucille. Lucille was the baby girl and the last born child of 20. Lucille's educational quest included the schools of East Carroll Parish. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Mount Chapel Church in Transylvania, LA.
THE DASH OF LIFE:
In February 1958,she met James "Jimmy" Campbell, and they were later married. To this union they were blessed with 5 boys. Lucy, as she was called, bore 5 children but reared many which included nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Lucy also received a second nickname, "Nanna". Her personality displayed charisma, love, honor, loyalty, faithfulness, and generosity. Nanna showed love to all and was always pleasant when she was ill. She continued to show compassion and humility. Lucy loved going to church with Ms. Shirley Wilson, traveling, spending time with her grandchildren, and collecting hats.
During the boys early years, they moved to Bunkie, LA and Las Vegas, Nevada. However, they returned home to Lake Providence in the 1970's.
After returning home, she joined the Cain Ridge #2 Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Jesse C. Knight. There she was an active usher and mother. She lived by Hebrews ll:l, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." She would say, "God has been so good to me and I just want to thank Him."
