Rudolph was the son of Hugh and Mary Koontz Bare, husband of Fannie Wagoner Bare. Enlisted Co A 26th NC Inf on 5/17/1861 in Ashe Cy NC. aged 23.
Served from New Bern through Gettysburg and Pickett's charge.
Served til 12/31/1863 when reported under arrest in guardhouse.
Returned to duty 3/1/1864
Paroled at Appomattox Courthouse Va 4/9/1864.
