Age 88 of Watertown - died at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge of a stroke.
She immigrated to the US at age 24.
Diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus after experiencing symptoms 1953, she was a longtime advocate of the disease, earning her the nickname "Mother Lupus".
Hennie and Dr. Peter H. Schur cofounded the Lupus Foundation of Massachusetts and subsequently helped found the Lupus Foundation of America Inc. in Washington, D.C. In 1988, they collaborated on a book, ''In Search of the Sun." She also wrote, ''The Sun is My Enemy," a 1972 book on Lupus.
