Robert "Bob" Sperry, 63, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2010. Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, with Pastor Wray Offermann officiating. Burial will be Lester Barnett Cemetery, Decatur, IL., with military rites conducted by Macon County Honor Guard.
Robert was born September 29, 1947, in Decatur, IL., the son of Mary Louise Sperry and Russell Harold Sperry. He married Donna Jean Schafer on February 19, 1970. Robert enlisted in the U S Marine Corps in November 1966, which he served as an 8th EngrBn also serving in the Vietnam War until April of 1970, then served as an active reservist until 1972. He was a member of American Legion Post #117. He then went to work at A. E. Staley Co., Goodyear Tire and Rubber of Phoenix, AZ, Decatur Bottling Co, then was an owner operator driving a semi tractor trailer back and forth across the United States for the last 35 years.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Louise Sperry; wife of 40 years, Donna Jean of Radford, VA; daughter Michelle Lynn Bowman and fiance Chad Treadway of Decatur, IL; son Robert "Bobby" Lee Sperry, Jr. of Radford, VA; and his one and only precious grandchild Brittany Michelle Bowman, which was Papa's "Little Fizzle" and his soon to be grandson Jordan Lee Thomas Treadway. Siblings: Lester Sperry, Sharon Roberts and husband Joe, Leona Urquhart and husband Dale of Decatur, IL., and Carol Cassell and husband Hilton of Tuttle, OK; several nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his father Russell Sperry, half brother Russell Harold Sperry, Jr. and nephews Terry Urquhart and Donnie Sperry.
