August brought his family to America in 1906 and shows up for the first time on the Wagner Twp. Aitkin Co., MN Census for 1910. This census listed August as 50 yrs. old at the time, but his age on the record was written over, and looks to actually be 40, which would put his birth at about 1870. His wife was Matilda, aged 37, b. abt. 1873 in GER, and their children were: Frieda, b. abt. 1895 (Mrs. Gilbert Vincent), Find-a-Grave Mem. # 14560979, (Joan), Arthur, b. abt. 1897, Paul, b. abt. 1899, Dora, b. abt. 1901, Theodore, b. abt. 1902, (all of these b. in GER), and then b. in MN, Allenora (Eleanora), b. abt. 1906, August, Jr., b. abt. 1907 in MN, Meta, b. abt. 1908 in MN.
The Dorau family, according to the 1910 Census had 9 living children, and 1 deceased. Since only 8 are listed, I'm assuming that Frieda had an older sibling, who either stayed in GER, or was on their own by 1910.
The surname is transcribed as Doran on the Census, but is actually Dorau. The 'n' and 'u' in cursive handwriting are often mistaken for each other.
Frieda (Mrs. Gilbert Vincent) was the mother of Robert Vincent, (1923) who married my cousin, Evelyn Karels.
