Sam was born Dec. 3, 1922, in Granville to Philip and Flora (Dobovsky) Gordon. He and his brother, Morris, co-owned Gordon Produce in Granville for more than 50 years.
He had a colorful personality, and throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, playing cards and conversation. His family and friends have many fond memories, and he will be greatly missed. Sam will always be pictured driving his truck that he enjoyed so much on warm summer days.
Survivors include his brother, Morris Gordon; his sister, Emma Gordon of Granville; a sister-in-law, Lolly Gordon of Granville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at the Ottawa Jewish Cemetery on Illinois Route 23 on the south end of Ottawa.
Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
