HOBART Word has been received of the death of Delbert Braun, 88, Hobart.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Hobart.
Wake service was at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Mr. Braun died Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
Burial was in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Hobart, under direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home.
He was born June 25, 1920, in the Babbs Community, Kiowa County, to Mathew Thomas and Amelia Helwer Braun. He married Lillie Biggers on Dec. 1, 1941, in Mangum. He was the owner of Braun & Son Implement and a farmer and rancher for many years. He was Hobart Citizen of the Year in 1991. He was president of the Oklahoma Hardware and Implement Association in 1978, and was a president of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Great Plains Antique Tractor Club and director of the Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. He was a founding member of the Kiowa County Historical Society and Kiowa County Geneological Society. He donated land for the Braun Softball Complex, helped start the Kiowa County Museum, and donated to the Shortgrass Playhouse. He was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and on the church board for many years.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Lynetta Braun, Hobart; a daughter, Judy Brown, Oklahoma City; grandchildren: Matthew and Sarah Brown, Yukon; Meagan Brown, San Antonio; and Jessica Braun and Mathew Braun, both of Hobart; three great-grandchildren: Tyler, Nick and Emily Brown; three sisters: Freida Jones, Cordell; Christine Wax, Altus; and Rosa Lena Harrison, Hobart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Matthew; and granddaughter, Amelia Braun.
