He ws born in Altfeld Bayern, Germany. He served in the German Army and came to America in the spring of 1890, at the age of 29. He apprenticed as a cobbler while in Germany. While in Bruning, he launched into the shoe business for himself. He remained single and the only surviving relatives in America are a brother Zachereas Albert and family, residing at Okabena, MN and the family of another brother who preceded him in death, located in Minnesota. He also leaves two brothers and two sisters still residing in Germany.
